How it works.

  1. Two sashes in one frame.

Both sashes are insulated. When you lock the window, they pull together at the middle and seal.

  2. Lift the bottom for a breeze.

The lower sash slides up and stays where you leave it. The screen covers the whole window.

  3. Drop the top to let heat out.

Hot air rises, so lowering the top sash lets it out. Open both a little and you get air moving through the room.

  4. From outside.

We fit the trim to your house, whether it's siding, brick, shake or stone.

What's in the window.

Your furnace's heat hits the coating and bounces back into the room.

Double hung window in a home

Where it works best.

  • Bedrooms

Top-down airflow lets you sleep with the window open and still have privacy.

  • Living rooms

The traditional look suits most Ohio homes, front or back.

  • Second floors

Tilt both sashes in and clean the outside glass without a ladder.

  • Whole houses

One style across the house keeps the outside even and the price simple.

Double hung questions.

Double hung or single hung: is the extra cost worth it?

If you'd ever want to open the top or clean the outside of a second-floor window from indoors, yes. On a ground-floor rental or basement, single hung usually makes more sense.

Can I clean the outside from inside the house?

Yes. Both sashes tilt in, so the outside of the glass comes to you.

What is an oriel window?

A double hung with unequal sashes, split 60/40 or 70/30 instead of evenly. It moves the meeting rail out of your line of sight and suits older homes.

Can I add grids?

Yes. Grids sit between the panes, so they stay clean and you wipe flat glass.
